I've started to use Krita again in preference of photoshop. My only gripe is that for some reason my brushes won't export from my laptop properly and I only end up with about half of the brushes I put into the pack. It's very frustrating. Well anyway, there's really not much to say. This was an unplanned work I managed to record on livestream.

2nd experiment: Painting hair and darker skin tones. Usually I paint darker skin to orange. Not just because I have some issues seeing certain colours in a certain hue properly but also because I lack the skills to balance it out. The best thing about Krita is that the layer Blend modes function a lot like Photoshop (Which I can no longer afford to sub to) AND it has a HUGE amount of other options for adjusting colours or changing them as well as some useful masking options. I used a little bit of masking and at once stage you can see me get confused in this video. So far loving the changes. Usually I couldn't use texture brushes because of lag. Now, it's not an issue. Each update I am noticing the changes in performance and things added. Loving the direction Krita is heading towards!

I have been doing a lot of these but have been unable to record them. So for the first time in a long time I managed to record some art without any crashing from either Krita or Snagit. My main experiment was the brush sizes and lag while recording. I prefer to do my blending with a particular paint brush and some times a variety of blurring blender brushes. Usually though it's just a standard smudge brush with a thick paint load. One thing about Krita, I always seem to draw very dark and often use a lot of grey. It's funny how it works out like that but I like it. I find I can create saturated art a lot easier in Krita than any other art application which is important to me. I often like to do a lot of dark themed art but when I have the opportunity to use sparkly shiny things I tend to lose focus and create the exact opposite of what I was aiming for. Now this was quite an experience. For those of you that don't know, Clip Studio Paint is Manga Studio 5. I use Clip Studio Paint (which I may refer to as CSP in this post) because I want to support the company directly instead of through Smith & Micro. Painting this portrait of Missy Elliott was a very pleasant and enlightening experience. I haven't done realism in quite some time and this portrait is still unfinished but I have painted it enough to get my point across. Painting in Clip Studio Paint is one of the best experiences in digital painting that I have had thus far. CSP doesn't lag and for those of you that come to my livestreams, you are aware of how fast I often draw and paint. It's very responsive but most importantly with it's customizable user interface, I have found the tools to be less distracting that Photoshop and easy and hassle free to blend. All done in photoshop. I tried my best to try and get it to look as much like watercolours as possible. Why? Because I don't have money to buy paint or paper. Today I really wanted to make watercolour art. All my watercolours are so dried up I can't even open the tube. I can't even cut it open so photoshop it was. Artrage is awesome and all but I don't like the blenders. I've yet to master it. I overly abused the Sharpen filter and textures. My main layer blend modes were Colour Burn and Multiply. I'm happy with the overall results. I've been playing with digital watercolours a lot lately. In between requests and art trades I do this sort of thing as a warm up exercise so I don't forget what I am trying to learn. I used Photoshop CS6 and a Huion 580 tablet. It took me almost a whole day to set up my huion properly. There's something wrong with my intuos and I might need to send it off for repairs but I am thankful to have a back up at least....
