Moho VS Synfig Side By Side Comparison

I thought I would have more to elaborate on but I don't. The painting took 1-2 hours to create and cut up into pieces and both animations took about an hour each because of a lack of skills and knowledge. If I knew the programs better I would have been much faster. Time taken would have been roughly the same.

Recent Synfig Animations

My most recent two animations here were fully livestreamed on 4 sites at once using Restream service which I highly recommend if you're trying to increase your visibility as an artist. Anyway I felt like enough time had passed and that I might give Synfig another chance. I'm glad I did. I like it but it still lags sooooo baaaaaaad! And for a stable release, it crashed an awful lot. In the first image I did use Blender to make the background. I used Blender 2.8 alpha and rendered it in EEVEE. The first one was just vector point animation. I don't know what else to call it. It's also technically morphing. I would have edited the motion had it not crashed at every attempt. So I left it as is. I really would have liked a smoother steam movement though. Still, it's better than nothing.

OpenCanvas 7 A Mild Review

Anyone that knows me or has followed this blog and my Tumblr, knows that I am a HUGE fan of OpenCanvas. I have been using it for years. Finally I got some P&Q and a decent mic and recorded some audio to go with it. There will be a part two but in the meantime I hope you will enjoy the video. I will likely follow up this post with another that is image heavy before coming out with the second vid.

Noteshelf and Noteshelf 2: A Small Review

As a non student and someone who writes a lot (don't let my messy handwriting fool you), I am always buying notebooks and I'm sick of it. I run out of storage quickly or I lose the books or worse yet, they get damaged. So I've recently committed to going fully digital. Instead of typing out this blog, I spent more time handwriting it in the app I was was planning to review. Below is said image. I used the grid template and then turned it off on export. Going digital is great although I do need to work on my outer margins a little more than I do. Bad habits from high school die hard. I combined the two pages into one image for easy of upload and viewing. Just beware, there will be mistakes. I had more to say but time was running short and I needed to get this post done, but I got the bulk of what I wanted to say written out with only a few spelling and grammar mistakes. The beauty of making mistakes in apps like this is the vector style eraser and the ability to cut,

Good Notes 4 And Why I like It

I watched one video about Good Notes 4 and I was hooked! I love this app! It’s fantastic! The writing in Good Notes 4 is surprisingly natural without too much auto correction on the lines. It’s smooth without being too smooth and simple to use. With how natural the writing feels and the use of the zoom feature it makes it even easier to write and use withing a limited space without making it uncomfortable or weird. My only gripe is a lack of pen styles to choose from. With my messy handwriting and the fact that I have a tendency to switch between cursive and print as I write after years of rush rush rush in high school that never left my hand’s memory, there are particular pens that look better, neater and more legible when I write with them such as a standard slanted calligraphy pen. I have a person preference for fountain and calligraphy pens that are sharp and/or slanted at certain angles. Most digital art or doodling apps provide these pens and it seems with their forever gr

Procreate & My Experiences So Far

It’s great. No doubt about it. It’s still lacking in some very basic features suck as proper masking and clipping masks but it’s pretty damned good, especially for the price. What I liked the most was the power consumption. Plenty of apps now have great pressure sensitivity and paint like blending but a lot lack the ability to do so without killing your iPad or phone after 10 mintues. For me though Medibang Paint still has it beat in every aspect except one. The timelapse feature. I love how it similarly to OpenCavas only better and it doesn’t crash. The paint brushes are interesting and I like the simplicity of creating brush textures from photo’s. Inking was also quiet nice but again I prefer Medibang Paint because of the highly customisable line correction. It helps since my hands shake and the iPad I am using is very sensitive and new. However the pen quality, customisation and pen choices were very nice and fun to use. I enjoyed a lot of the more natural media brushes especi

You Don't Need After Effects For Animation

OpenToonz Animation Timelapse from Draconian Rain on Vimeo . I made this in hopes of showing others that you don't need to be in a studio or use fancy software to make animation with cool looking effects. It's a shame that so many people strongly believe that you need After Effects to create anything halfway decent. It's simply not true. All you need is passion, determination, motivation and a willingness to not only learn but be prepared to do problem solving. After you learn OpenToonz, your only real roadblock is yourself. Keep trying guys. Just keep at it and please always use freeware to learn animation first because so many people after they realise there is not "do it for me" option and find out that you have to do everything yourself, these people give up while others come to find that despite the results they absolutely hate the process and also give up. Don't waste your precious money on paid software until you are certain that animation i

Coolpix Nikon B500 Camera

Through AfterPay I was able to buy a Coolpix Nikon B500 camera. I needed a new camera and I wanted an upgrade from a regular point and shoot cam. I must say, I am impressed. I would have loved to have gotten a DSLR but it was not within my budget. The Nikon B500 is a Bridge camera and perfect for me and what I like to do. I really like to take photo's of things I'd like to paint later. Sometimes however I just want to take a photo. So this camera really suits me, espeically with it's automatic settings. It's very much point and shoot but it has the options to customize settings. My only gripe is not being able to change the shutter speed myself. A handfull of times I could have really done with a much slower shutter speed or faster but otherwise, the auto and custom settings do a fantastic job. Sometimes you just have to play around with it until you get it to work right for you which is pretty much the same with any camera. I knew the camera would be good from th

Compiling Your Scenes in OpenToonz

At some point, you will want to merge certain scenes or projects together. As long as you can navigate to the folder you saved it in, it's very easy to do. Just simply right click and "Load Level" and select the .tnz scene you wish to merge or add to a project. Then simply render as you normally would or send to a renderfarm if that's something you're into. My PC can handle rendering and I only make small projects so it's never been an issue for me personally. Just make sure to fully utilize the Sub-xhseet folder system and you could very easily have a neat and well polished project with a few simple clicks.
