Digital Painting

Pros:

  • No waiting for things to dry
  • No cleaning up. No mess.
  • Exact colours and any colour always available. My pet peeve in traditional art was running out of black or white.
  • No worry about too big or too small. Easy to resize canvas.
  • Print out
  • Take as long as needed without worrying about damaging what you're working. I mean this in the way that over painting paper can damage the paper.
  • Quicker
  • Relaxing to do on a laptop in a comfy chair or in bed
  • Tablet is portable
  • Me personally I can draw emotions better, my art is more alive but other artists are the opposite.
  • Relaxing to draw in paint tool sai and enjoy many hours of drawing with full freedom. There's less restrictions than in traditional.
  • No need to buy more supplies, it's a one time cost for the drawing program and tablet if you take good care of your tablet.
  • Gets addictive because once you no longer feel restricted the ideas come pouring out.
Cons:
  • Can't do it without some form of computer
  • Cords on tablet tend to get damaged easily
  • Wireless tablets are more expensive
  • Doesn't have to same feeling
  • Hard to get use to in the beginning. Very hard before it becomes natural
  • Once the file is corrupted that's it, it's gone
  • If you don't back up, and your PC crashes it's gone forever. That is why it's important to try to store a digital copy online. Personally I use my Deviantart for my good work and my personal stuff mature or not goes on a private photobucket album.
  • If the surface gets scratched or damaged it often ruins the experience since it looses functionality
  • Loss of pressure senstivity when updating drivers, having to find an older driver update to go back to normal can be very hard and annoying.
  • Programs to draw are often very expensive. Not everyone is suited to cheaper programs like SAI and Opencanvas.
  • Replacing your tablet or upgrading or upgrading programs can become very costly.
Those are a few things I've come to love and hate about digital painting. I don't think I'll ever go back but it's nice when I pick up a pencil again. It's hideous compared to my digital work but I still love it. Still love what I do.

    I agree with a lot of these points. I love doing traditional work but digital painting/sketching can be so much easier and more effective. :) Even with the ms paint crap I have on my blogspot lol, it's also quicker to share the things you do digitally.

In Toon Boom Harmony, how do you edit gradients? The second icon on the tool bar if you click and hold, the last tool option is the edit gradient tool. To enable a gradient, you need to first create or edit a swatch and click Gradient to enable it and then choose if you want linear or elliptical. The above video, though fast, shows this. Updated Pixel Pen Pack For Clip Studio Paint

Because I don't like to see people at a disadvantage and because I'm not only in love with Clip Studio Paint but almost totally biased with it, I have created as MANY tools as possible to not only make pixel art a little easier but more comfortable. PLEASE share my brushes. Even if you don't credit me or remember who I am, PLEASE send these to your friends that use clip and make pixel art! I only ask that people don't sell these brushes. Of course I can't stop anyone and I can't prove they are mine since anyone that knows the program could make these tools. My goal is to keep these brushes free and accessible to everyone so they might be able to enjoy making pixel art in their favourite program. I haven't made any pixel tools in other apps. I might be able to but it's not a priority since most people know where the default pixel brushes are. Toon Boom Raster & Vector Animation

I have been working on this for 4 months. I couldn't make up my mind. At first I wanted to fully commit to raster based animation, but there were certain features of vector that I wanted to use or couldn't resist. This is all frame by frame animation at 24fps about 60 frames in total, give or take a few frames. Originally I wanted to add a texture to the hair instead of colour but it just didn't look right. I was also hoping to try a water colour look but it just didn't suit the lineart. Hopefully when I learn a little more I can do some compositing and add a few effects such as lighting, shadow, and a background I like.
